Zora talked with Atsuko, the owner of the iconic Shiba Inu,
the Doge, about how Kabosu was rescued,
why Atsuko decided to mint and what she feels about making the meme history.
Zora: How do you feel about the impact Kabosu has created on the world?
敦子さんのクリエーション(かぼちゃんの画像)が世界に与えたインパクトについて、どう思いますか?
Atsuko : To be honest, the fact that the photo of Kabosu has become a world-famous meme feels a bit unreal to me. Many people probably do not even know that Kabosu exists in real life. To me, Kabosu is just part of our family to spend everyday life together. Kabosu is always thinking about the food she eats, and she knows nothing about the impact she has on the world.
ミームとなって世界中に広まりましたが、
本当のことを言えば、あまり現実味がありません。
かぼすが実在する犬であることを
知らない人も多いのだと思います。
私にとってのかぼすは、
毎日を共に過ごす小さな家族に過ぎません。
かぼす自身も、自分が世界に与えたインパクトより、
朝晩のご飯の方が重要だと思っているはずです。
Z: Is there a favorite meme you’ve seen throughout the years that made you really happy?
かぼちゃんの画像がミームになって以来、かぼちゃん関連のトレンドが色々ありましたが、
敦子さんが特に好きなものはありますか?
AS: I do not watch the meme scene and am not really knowledgeable about memes out there,
but I feel proud that Kabosu became the face of Doge.
あまり多くのミームは見ていませんし、
面白さもよくわかりませんが、
Dogecoinの顔となれたことは誇りに思います。
Z: What do you hope people will remember about Kabosu and Doge’s legacy?
かぼちゃんやDogeのレガシーとして、敦子さんが人々に覚えておいてもらいたいことはありますか?
AS: If you learn about Kabosu through Doge, I want you to also know that Kabosu was originally owned by an unscrupulous breeder as a breeding dog and was abandoned like garbage before she was rescued by an animal conservation group. It is really a miracle that a dog that was about to be slaughtered found her family and became very famous around the world.
Dogeとしてかぼすの存在を知ってもらえたのであれば、
かぼすが悪徳ブリーダーの繁殖犬であったことや、
ゴミのように捨てられた事実、
そして保護団体に助けられた過去も知って欲しいと思います。
殺処分寸前だった犬が、
家族を見つけて世界中で有名になったなんて、
まさに奇跡だと思います。
Z: Why have you decided to mint images of Kabosu as NFTs?
かぼちゃんの画像をNFTにしようと思った理由は何ですか?
AS: I originally was just happy that people enjoyed looking at the image of Kabosu as a meme. However, I was not happy about her photo being used for businesses without any permission.
There are also scammers who use my name to sell NFTs,which is scary.
I do not want anyone to use her image for their self-interest or greed.
I decided to make her images NFTs on my own so that her photos can contribute to
something meaningful.
ミームのように、かぼすの画像をみんなが楽しむために使われるのであれば、
それでもいいと思ってきましたが、
何の許可も得ずに勝手に商品化されたりすることに対しては、
ずっと嫌な気持ちがしていました。
最近では私の名前を使ってNFTを売ろうとする、
詐欺行為をする人も現れ恐ろしくなりました。
私利私欲のためには、
かぼすの画像を使って欲しくありません。
私自身が画像をNFTにして売り上げを寄付すれば、
かぼすの画像は大きな意味を持つと思ったのです。
Z: How did you choose the charities that will benefit from the auction?
この7つのチャリティーを選ばれた理由はなんですか?
AS: The proceeds of the past charity events I have organized all went to animal conservation groups, but this time I picked charities for human children.
I have been working in child education,
and every day I learn from children,
and they make me smile.
I wanted to contribute to helping those children who are suffering in the world,
and it would be my honor (and Kabosu’s honor)
if we can make those children smile as much as possible.
今までのチャリティーイベントの支援金は、
全て動物保護団体に寄付をしてきましたが、
今回は「人間のこども」を対象に選びました。
私はずっと幼児教育の世界で働いています。
毎日子ども達に元気と笑顔をもらい、学ばせてもらっています。
世界中で苦しんでいる子どもたちが、
一人でも癒やされて笑顔になってくれるのなら嬉しいと思い、
この寄付先を選びました。
